Today I am sharing a double sided mdf birthday stand made for a friend who also likes something a little different and thought I would also use it for our blog challenge this month over on Let's Craft and Create. The theme for our challenge this month covers birthdays, Mothers Day or just because.
These are the items I used:-
- Dreamees mdf stand
- flower/leaf /sentiment stamps from Chloe Endean Inspiration Box Set Issue 1
- turquoise vellum
- silver super fine Wow embossing powder
- Hollywood Hills glitter Wow Embossing powder (Chloe Endean mix)
- Versafine clear embossing ink
- piece of heat resistant acetate for the leaves
- Santoro Mirabelle paper paper
- Silver metallic Dreamee Pearls
- Debbi Moore - Twilight collection topper
- black card for the rosettes
First I stamped and heat embossed my flowers onto the vellum using the embossing powder. I always dust my vellum with an anti-static bag first to get rid of any stray flecks of embossing powder, especially if you are using acetate too. With coloured vellum, if you are unsure as to whether it is heat resistant or not I think the rule of thumb is just to go carefully with it as it can buckle very quickly.
I love making vellum flowers, they always have that appearance of glass to me or something very delicate. Shape the petals by pinching each petal in the centre and shaping with a ball tool in the centre. I use a little hot glue to layer them up and finishing off with a metallic pearl.
Roughly cut around the acetate so that all the detail from the heat embossed glittered leaves shows through.
The sentiment was also heat embossed too using the sentiment from the same Inspirational Box kit that I purchased some time ago by Chloe Endean. She makes fabulous hand drawn stamps, especially her flowers.
This Inspirational Box set was very good value for money and she has since bought another out. They are ideal for those wanting to dip their toe in the water to try, as a crafty gift or just treat yourself!
A project magazine, A4 papers, collection of stamps, an embossing folder and a die for about £13.
I decorated the mdf stand with one of the papers from my all time favourite paper pad from the Santoro Mirabelle collection.
Like most crafters, I hang on to parts of paper pads that I love and don't want to use up completely and this is one of those pads..... which I have had for a few years and it still smells good!! The vintage glittered rose paper matched my flowers perfectly.
Knowing my friend also likes a touch of the gothic, I found the perfect image to add to the other side of her birthday plaque.
Debbi Moore Designs is another of my favourite designers in the craft world and I have made many projects using her products. Every month on her website she offers a free download which enables you to make a card or project and these are always of exceptional quality.
This particular image I purchased from the download section on her website and is from the Twilight collection. The image has been decoupaged. The rosettes have been made from circles of thin black card.
I like the idea of the mdf stand. It gives you a choice of view and if placed on a window sill a double view from both ends.
