At our after school craft club last month we have been making the following projects in our small group. As the allotted time is only short I tried to give them projects that they could complete in one session whilst exploring the materials given.
We started by decorating these brown craft bags. These were work in progress, adding to them at the end of each session where they felt necessary. They also made little bag charms with beads. My group this month loved anything pink, purple, powder blue with flowers, fairies and butterflies so it was quite easy to find items to please.
Week 2/3, Mothers Day gift
With Mothers Day coming I thought it would be a nice idea to make some paper roses for their mums. Normally my group take everything they have made home at the end of the half-term and they always start by making something to keep all their projects in. The paper roses were an exception as they needed to give them to their mums ready for the day.
To make the roses they used the packaging from some discs I had saved which were the perfect size for them to draw around and then cut out. They carefully tore a spiral into the circle. The torn edge gives the rose a more natural shape to it. We used coloured pipe cleaners for the stems.
They each made 3 roses, using coloured card of their choice which was tied with a piece of gold glittered velvet ribbon. They also made a pouch to place their roses in.
Here are the different combination of roses they made:-
I was so impressed with how well they made these, especially as they had never made anything like this before. They only needed a little help making sure the back of the rose glued together with the pipe cleaner using a tacky pva glue.
I love how each one is different, even though they have the same materials to work with.
This is something that they can now make themselves, which is the whole idea of doing this club, making crafting accessible.
To accompany their flowers I asked them to bring in a copy of their favourite picture with their mum as we were going to make a little picture tag to go with their bouquet of roses.
The picture tag just slotted into the flower pouch nicely and they were so chuffed with their own achievements.
Week 4. Hanging owl plaques
We made hanging owl plaques using toppers and papers from Debbi Moore's Bookazine - Shabby Chic Owls.
We used card from a rather large jaffa cake box I die cut using one of the square dies from my dreamees lace die collection, which cut through the box using my Sizzix effortlessly even though it is only a thin die. I covered the card with white copier paper ready for them to decorate.
On the reverse they decorated them also with coordinating papers a large die cut heart, mini hearts, flowers and holographic silver circle stickers. They used some white ribbon to connect their plaques, silver alphabet letters on the front of their plaques and some wired ribbon tied to look like a bow to finish them off.
This is a bundle of one of their tags made.
We experimented with some mini Typographyembossing folders by Leonie Puji (Swirls & More and Always Create)
They also experimented using some dreamees papers and their doily die along with Docraft xcut mini flower dies and a Hunkydory fairy wishes die.
They used some gold paint, peel offs, mini toppers and drawings to decorate them. They all had extra tags to keep and decorate whenever inspired to do so. They were threaded together with brown twine to make it easy to add and take off as they also started making for each other, which was a lovely idea.
Week 6 ATCs (Artist Trading Cards)
I made a few cards with some of the materials they had to use as inspiration and brought in a selection of cards that I had received of other crafters from some group ATC swaps that I am a member of for more inspiration. This is what they came up with.
They wrote their card theme on the back and they
really enjoyed making their own cards with talk about forming their own group to make and swap themselves.
I normally make a set of cards for them on their last week to keep and hopefully inspire them to make their own.
I used the digi stamps from Vera Lane - Kokeshi Dolls www.etsy.com/uk/shop/VeraLaneStudio
These have been coloured with distress oxides in peacock feathers, pickled raspberry, seedless preserves, also gathered twigs distress ink. I also shimmered them with a spectrum noir sparkle clear overlay pen.

That's it for this month.
